Plan a Christmas of candlelit feasts, crisp morning walks over countryside and coast, and no pressure to peel a single Brussels sprout. Think roaring fires lit by 4pm, glasses of something chosen from a meandering wine list, well-earned naps and hours-long baths in suites cocooned away from the world, all tucked into the folds of Fowlescombe Farm’s peaceful valley.

23rd December
A warm welcome
By the time you arrive at 3pm, fires will be lit and wine mulled.
Make yourself at home with a glass of something warm, before joining us for fireside welcome drinks and festive snacks to ease into the evening. Later, sit down to dinner in the Refectory, where winter root vegetables, slow-reared meats and indulgent desserts prove restraint has no place at Christmas.
An optional wine pairing is available for those who like to start as they mean to go on.

Christmas Eve
With last-minute rushes left at home, all that’s left to do today is wake when you choose, enjoy breakfast slowly and plan how you’ll spend Christmas Eve in Devon.
Wrap up for bracing beach strolls or let us arrange a lift into Totnes, a place where Christmas spirit exists in abundance. Or don’t. Stay exactly where you are. Head into the garden with the chef to gather herbs while you wait for the mince pies to cool, or follow the footpaths into the valley if your legs are asking for a stretch.
Christmas Eve in the Refectory is all candlelight and clinking glasses amidst festive foliage, with a four-course menu celebrating the final harvests of the year. We’ll play games in the Greenhouse, have a Christmas classic playing in the Map Room and promise lots of time to soak in that special feeling of the night before Christmas.

25th December
Christmas Day
Wake to Christmas Day on the farm, all frost-tipped fields and slow, celebratory breakfasts. Once the presents are open and the morning walks done, we’ll serve Christmas lunch as it should be: no timelines or unnecessary trimmings, just a feast of Devon’s finest produce – just-picked greens from the garden, turkey reared by our friends, our own cranberries and a champagne toast.
Whether it is hunger or curiosity that sparks your appetite again later on, a generous supper spread will serve delicious purpose, before you hunker down in the Farmhouse or your suite.

26th December
Boxing Day
There is a little-known rule that any Christmas spent by the sea must feature a Boxing Day dip. With lots of layers, blankets, hot tea and towels in tow, we’ll head to Bigbury for a sea swim guaranteed to wash away all signs of yesterday’s indulgences. Participation is optional, of course, but highly encouraged.
Back at the farm, the kitchen team will get to work preparing a Boxing Day buffet that is all about comfort food served generously. With bellies full, it’s to the Greenhouse for drinks and live music.

27th December
A Fond Farewell
As the world begins to stir from its festive slumber, linger a little longer. Stay tucked away in the Devon countryside, where the pace is still slow. Let us arrange transfers for Dartmoor roams or run the bath, pick up your book and don’t leave your suite until dinner.
One last meal in the Refectory bookmarks your stay with four slow, seasonal courses. Fish caught off the coast this morning, perhaps, or fresh pasta with sweet squash and sage from the garden. There’ll be a toast, a farewell, and perhaps the beginnings of a plan to do it all again next year.
