Volume 3: FOOD, GLORIOUS FOOD

Food to us means more than sustenance. It is a story, an affair to be shared, a celebration of our land and its bounty. It plays a starring role in time spent at Fowlescombe Farm, where our guests are encouraged to slip into the slower pace of Devon life, discovering the beauty of British farming and satisfaction of eating produce grown and raised just a few steps away.

Our whole approach is rooted in the regenerative, from the soil itself and the food it grows, right through to the sense of wellbeing that comes with reconnecting with the land and getting to know the story behind what is on your plate.

A daily-changing menu reflects the very best of here and now

At the centre of it all is The Refectory, a sophisticated yet relaxed space with long tables and an open kitchen where executive chef Tom ‘Westy’ Westerland works his magic. Westy is a proud Welshman, but it is the very best of Devon he brings to dishes, sustainability sitting front and centre always.

Lunch here may bring Wood Roast Tomato Soup with Yesterday’s Bread Croutons, or Rare & Pasture Charcuterie made here on the farm, just a little further up the hill. Come evening, Westy’s daily changing four-course dinner menu reflects what grows at this very moment in time. Ingredients are sourced from the farm or very locally, from both land and sea, as is the only way when eating here in Devon. Think starters of Sharpham Cremet Gougère and Garden Radish with Smoked Cod’s Roe, mains of Salcombe Crab Linguine or Manx Loaghtan Hogget, and to finish, Caramelised Milk Tart with farm strawberries.

Activities like bread making, baking and sausage making all happens in The Refectory

When the sun is shining, The Greenhouse is a place for long table feasts framed by Shelley’s kitchen gardens. As our head gardener, Shelley is responsible for the rotating range of produce that makes its way from the patch to your plate in minutes, and your guide to the best botanicals to pick for your evening gin.

Finally, when days spent adventuring leave you craving quieter nights in, farm steaks can be delivered to your door with a bottle of something very special. We can also arrange one of Westy’s meal kits, prepped and supplied with his handwritten instructions for a dinner cooked at leisure. Nights in have never been more delicious.

Fowlescombe Farm promises farm-to-fork dining at its tastiest and most authentic

As a family of foodies, we can’t wait to welcome you to our table.
